Flower Mound is frequently called the “Town of Flower Mount.” The residents, a population of 65,526, don’t like the town to be called a “city.” It is located in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties and derived its name from a 12.5-acre mound located in the southern portion of the town which is covered by wild flowers. The most widely accepted explanation for the mound is that it was a sacred ceremonial ground of Wichita Indians in the early 1800s. Although it is surrounded by commercial and residential development, the mound is privately owned so as to be protected from further development.
This quaint town has a small town atmosphere with its own Town Hall and Town Council, but is still close enough to other cities to have easy access to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. There are over 900 businesses in Flower Mound, including Lewisville Independent School District as the largest employer. The Town itself employs the second-most number of employees, at over 400, and 21 other businesses each employ at least 50 people.
