The Desire to Buy is Still Alive

By dallasrealtor | February 26, 2009

It seems that many people are not deterred by the issues that plague the market today.  According to NAR (National Association of Realtors), pending home sales increased as more buyers took advantage of improved affordability conditions.  Big gains in the South and Midwest offset modest declines in other regions.  According to the Pending Sales Index, contracts signed in December climbed 6.3% to 87.7 from 82.5 in November.  Amazingly, it was 2.1% higher than the previous year (December 2007) of 85.9.  This relates to a strong desire of many Americans to purchase a home, despite all of the troubling information attached to it in the press.  Yes, the problems are there and the problems are real, but the truth of the matter is that if individuals are not interested in buying, then there won’t be a fundamental change in the problems.  Real estate is an investment and hopefully, it will be one that pays off for those that are willing to take the risk.
