According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “The number of empty homes-for sale or rent-has hit a record 19 million.” The number of vacant homes climbed 6.7% from the fourth quarter of 2007. The total number of homes for sale climbed 2.9% of all homes. This is a number that has not been seen since the agency first started tracking information in 1956. Home ownership has dropped to 67.5%, according to the bureau. These numbers produce a sense of concern, but the year is young. With new situations come new results. This is the first time in modern history that the United States has been faced with such a chaotic, economic struggle. One of the most important industries relating to the American economy is the housing market. It may take some time to see any changes, but a year of baby steps towards progression is better than a fall.
