Texas is home to several cities rates the best places to live in America.

2008 Money Magazine's Best Places To Live include Carrolton, ranked 15, Frisco, ranked 38, and Richardson, ranked 18. In addition, these cities and surround neighborhoods provide a wide variety of living opportunities for the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex, from more recent developments in Plano, Frisco and Allen to older, more established communities in Addison, Carrollton, and Richardson, some of which date back to the late 1800s.

But even time-honored cities like Richardson have seen steady growth over the past few years. Just 12 miles north of Dallas on Highway 75, families and young professionals find Richardson an excellent suburban location with larger than average home sizes. Like many great Dallas suburbs, Richardson puts on events to tie the community together, including the yearly singer/songwriter festival, Wildflower, which boasts over 50,000 attendees. With single family homes in Richardson averaging under $200,000, this convenient suburb is an easier entry point to Dallas living than some of the newer developments north of Dallas.

Some cities are not so lucky to have a highway going through it like Richardson has, but they are lucky to have Dallas' light rail system—Dart. For example, luxurious and popular Plano is 20 miles north of Downtown Dallas, but since it is part of the Light Rail System, residents can commute to downtown Dallas in a snap. On the other hand, the fast-growing and also affluent suburb of Frisco is located off of the Dallas North Tollway 30 miles north of Dallas, which might make a carpool arrangement pleasurable.

Texas is also home to older neighborhoods that are protected conservation districts because of their historic nature.

When determining a good time to buy a home, consider mortgage interest rate levels, home price levels, and government incentives such as Homebuyer's Tax Credit. All of these economic factors vary with time, but Dallas has stayed strong, attracting steady growth because of its affordable pricing and low interest rates throughout the area. In addition, DFW is well known for excellent education, providing an incentive to families to relocate.
Another incentive to relocating to DFW, especially for families, is the choice of many excellent schools.
