Plano Lifestyle | What’s Happening in Plano | Plano Quick Facts

Looking at Plano homes for sale, but worried about fitting in? Don’t worry. The city that was once dubbed a very “vanilla” upper-middle class community has taken great strides in recent years to prove that it’s got as much flavor as any other DFW city. Read more about Plano or view Plano homes for sale below:

Located a quick 15 miles from Dallas, Plano has a population of more than 250,000.  The ninth largest city in Texas has experienced rapid growth over the last 20 years, thanks in part to the number of businesses headquartered there and Dallas’ northward push.  This growth has been kind to Plano’s residents, landing their city a spot as one of the wealthiest U.S. cities by CNN Money and one of Forbes.com’s top three suburbs for living well in Dallas (can you guess the other two?).

Plano Lifestyle

Upon visiting some of the homes for sale in Plano, you’ll immediately notice the suburban family lifestyle that it is well known for.  Add to that the excellent schools, and you’ll easily see why Plano real estate is so desirable.  Commuters from Dallas who buy homes in Plano often point out the numerous parks, nature preserves, and interconnecting bike trails as a big draw for relaxing weekends.  Those who prefer a shorter commute choose homes for sale in Plano for the close proximity to local employers JC Penney, Dr. Pepper, Perot Systems, and Ericsson.  These big name employers and their in-town employees keep Plano’s economy and job market steady and not as reliant on Dallas business.

It seems that homes in Plano are fashionable, too: notable residents include Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, and infamous tycoon/presidential candidate Ross Perot.

What’s Happening in Plano

If a booming economy and suburban lifestyle aren’t enough to make homes for sale in Plano worth a look, consider all there is to do in the city itself.  Plano hosts hot air balloon races each September, earning it the title of “Balloon Capital of Texas.”  Food choices abound, as the city tempts residents’ palates with Thai, French, and other exotic offerings without a commute to downtown Dallas.

Legacy at Plano, a massive development right off of Central Expressway, offers an urban experience in the suburbs.  Residents and visitors alike enjoy the retail, dining, and nightlife that the still-growing area has to offer.  Within the development itself, urban homes for sale in Plano include luxury apartments with fantastic views and upscale townhome communities.  Centered around a glistening waterscape, Legacy has been credited for making Plano’s reputation a great deal trendier and friendlier.

If you prefer an escape to the big city for entertainment or just need a convenient commute, a quick trip on DART’s light rail service or a few minutes on the Dallas North Tollway will take you to the heart of DFW.
